MATER Christi College is a school where girls can “make it happen” — whether within an academic, sporting or social context.
And there has certainly been plenty happening at Mater Christi, particularly with the ongoing building program transforming the school in recent years.
The latest facilities, officially opened and blessed at Mater Christi’s recent Open Day, include a major development comprising eight state-of-the-art classrooms, new music spaces, a multi-purpose pavilion and three all-weather sports courts incorporating huge underground rainwater tanks.
With the new VCE Centre, Mater Christi students enjoy facilities of the highest quality, featuring environmental designs and an innovative curriculum to match.
The college is extending the Middle Years Program of the International Baccalaureate to year eight this year and the teachers are particularly excited by the opportunities provided by these new rooms.
“I have lived in the area for many years and was totally unaware that the college was so well resourced and attractive,” said new teacher Melissa MacEoin.
“There is great attention to detail in provision of resources and it provides the students with enormous opportunities,” she said.
Principal Mary Fitz-Gerald is particularly excited to see the new facilities come alive.
“The new classrooms are flexible and spacious with the technologies to provide an ideal arrangement for innovative teaching,” she said.
“The use of technology is integral across the campus with electronic whiteboards in most classrooms, fully networked computer labs and mini-labs.”
But it is not just the buildings that have sparked much interest.
Sitting on the hill site above Belgrave are three expansive all-weather sports courts which will significantly enhance the sporting opportunities for the girls.
“It is very satisfying to see our plans coming together with the new facilities and developments in our programs.
“It is a credit to the vision and commitment of so many within the Mater Christi community that we are able to provide tremendous opportunities for the girls,” said Ms Fitz-Gerald.
“The development of these first-class facilities is only possible with the financial commitment of our families.
“They share our vision that education is an exciting investment in the future of their daughters, not a cost.
“The results are clear for all to see and we are very proud of the college and the achievements of the girls.”
