Reliving the glory days

TALKING about the good old days, a number of former Belgrave South Football players gathered at the clubrooms on Saturday for a reunion.
Club president Ian Bakens said the reunion was a gathering of the foundation years of the club including players from the late 1940’s and the 1950’s era.
Mr Bakens said the day was a terrific occasion with over 80 people attending the even.
“There were some wonderful stories of the good old days, of players being picked up by old milk carts and taken to the football ground,” Mr Bakens said.
Belgrave South Football Club was founded in 1946 and is gearing up for its 60th anniversary next year.
Mr Bakens said many of the past players travelled from country areas and interstate to attend the luncheon function on the weekend.
He said there was also a large display of old photographs and memorabilia, which the past players enjoyed looking at.
Mr Bakens said one of the highlights of the day was when Bob Street, who played for the club for 16 years from 1947 to 1963, observed a minute’s silence for those former players who have passed away.
“It was just a lovely day all round,” Mr Bakens said.
