Setting the stage for confidence

DRAMA classes for young people between 5 and 17 years old are now happening in Monbulk starting term one.
The Helen O’Grady Drama Academy, renowned throughout Australia and in 17 countries, with almost 50,000 students worldwide, is opening a new studio at the St George Anglican Church Hall on Main Road.
The classes focus on developing students’ self-confidence, self esteem and communication skills through a balanced drama and theatre arts program. “If you have a shy or boisterous child, lessons in drama can help them to become well-rounded individuals with a healthy outlook on life,” said the academy’s new outer eastern suburbs principal, Karen Booth.
Karen is overseeing more than 200 students. She says that drama is an outstanding self-development tool for all children as well as being a lot of fun.
“For shy children drama can help them learn to relax and interact. For the extroverts it can help them learn to focus their enthusiasm and skills.
“If they experience a little bit of success at this, it feeds into everything they do in life.”
Helen O’Grady Children’s Drama Academy also holds classes at Rowville, Wantirna, Knoxfield, Ringwood, Croydon, Mooroolbark, Bayswater, Ferntree Gully and Lilydale.
