Tempting Indian tastes in Tecoma

SAFFRON Cottage in Tecoma provides delicious traditional and contemporary Indian and tandoori cuisine plus a nice selection of homemade cakes and breads.
An extensive and exclusive boutique wine list is updated every three months and a wide range of imported and local beers is also available.
The mother-and-daughter team of Nikky Salgadoe and Shabana Iqbal opened Saffron Cottage after great demand from hills’ customers who were regulars at Nikky’s previous restaurant, Miraaj in Boronia.
Shabana said they had many loyal customers who came to them from many different areas and they now had a visitors’ book filled with testimonials.
“We are now seeing a third generation in our customers,” she said.
The menu is extensive and features traditional Indian cuisine with lots of signature dishes.
Nikky said they specialised in creating their own dishes using a unique combination of tropical spices.
“We pride ourselves on cooking fresh a la carte and we cater to individual tastes whether mild, medium or hot in both traditional dishes and modern delicacies,” she said.
“All staff have RSA (Responsible Servicing of Alcohol program) accreditation and have been trained by us and have been with us for years.”
In winter, cosy fireplaces and laid-back jazz, blues and late 30s music create an ambience rarely found and it explains the huge popularity of this special restaurant.
In summer, the new balcony is a fully licensed alfresco dining area.
