Top week for Bombers

EMERALD Cricket Club’s A Grade made a good total of 9/291 last week and was in a strong position against Pakenham Upper-Toomuc.
Clinton Marsh and Daniel Porter gave the Bombers a great start with the score on 2/25 after 12 overs. Rod Smith and Quenten Lucas came on and provided good support as the Bombers went to tea with them on 4/92.
Emerald was in a commanding position and after Marsh grabbed his second, Mark Wheatley was brought into the attack and it proved a good move as he bowled beautifully to clean up the tail and claim the excellent figures of 5/53 off 13.4 overs.
PUT was dismissed in the 65th over for 180 giving the Bombers their first win for the year. Apart from Wheatley, Clinton Marsh bowled 21 overs to get 2/54, and Daniel Porter also bowled well to claim 2/30 off 13 overs.
B Grade: The Bombers travelled down to Cardinia and were defending 124 which came thanks to a good partnership between Ash Lucas and Jay Kleinsmit. Tony Flint and Angry Williams opened up and both bowled well despite not getting any wickets.
It took till the score was on 59 before the first wicket fell. Geoff Worrell came into the attack and got immediate success as the Bombers started to get on top. Good catches to Greg Hamilton and James Litterbach helped as the tea score was 4/78.
Jarred Gillespie bowled a tight spell as Worrell continued to claim wickets. Yo Roelink was brought on and he too bowled a good tight line as the Bombers rolled Cardinia for 91. Roelink finished with 3/6 off 8 overs, but Worrell was the star with 15 overs 6/11. It was a good comeback as the last 10 wickets fell for just 32 runs.
D Grade: After making 189 last week, the Bombers opened up with Andrew Rolfs and Jesse Mather and they bowled well to restrict Merinda Park to 1/29 after 15 overs. They batted well at the start with the score moving to 3/128.
Michael Pepi came into the attack and found success in his sixth over. From there the Bombers started to get on top as Pepi started to rip through the attack. The score fell from being 3/128 to all out for 172. Pepi was the star claiming 6 for 37 off 11.1 overs. He was well supported by Euan Thoms with 8 overs 1/15, and Mather 1/27 off 12 and Rolfs with 0/40 off 21 overs.
E Grade: After making a disappointing 157 last week Merinda Park resumed at 2/39. Eric Glazner and Corey Sweeney opened up and the two produced a fantastic opening spell. The score fell to 6/94 after 35 overs with Glazner doing most of the damage.
From there however the Bombers found the going tough as their batsmen took advantage of the spongy ball. The next wicket fell with the score on 142 but it was too late from there as they ended up making 261 off 75 overs. The best of the bowlers was Glazner with 4/61 off 22 overs. He was well supported by Sweeney who got 1/21 off 17 tight overs.
F Grade: Emerald played Gembrook at Cockatoo. Bowling first the bombers got off to a good start and continued that for the whole innings to bowl them out for 55 in the 33rd over.
Brad Wynd, Byron Porter and Jim Burke bowled well early to each get one wicket then at the end Paul Dodd 2/12 and Brock Barlow 3/4 off 4.2 bowled well. In reply the Bombers were never in trouble and passed the target only two wickets down. They ended up 5/100. Lynden Richardson 15, Byron Porter 24 and Jim Burke 28 were the main contributors.
