Yasalal’s smashing century

RANGA Yasalal has smashed a scintillating 135 not out against East Ringwood to keep Olinda undefeated in the first XI.
Yasalal hit his highest score for Olinda in a display that had to be seen to be believed. The former Sri Lanka A player hit eight sixes and nine fours, combining with the club’s great Craig Elliott, 50, to record a partnership of 185.
Olinda was 8/281 in 40 overs against East Ringwood. Humphries (2/13) and Peter Manaert (2/25) were the pick of the Olinda bowlers, as East Ringwood was restricted to 8/182.
In the second XI, Olinda lost the toss and bowled first. It had East Ringwood 8/153 at Kalorama Reserve after its allotted 35 overs.
Jamie Beattie continued his stunning season with the ball – he now has 15 wickets – as he jagged 3/14 off seven overs. But Dave Ruyter had a day out. After picking up 2/25 with the ball, he then peeled off his finest innings for the club, posting 82 runs. Ruyter put on a second-wicket partnership of 102 with skipper Matt Burgan.
Big-hitting all-rounder Ian Begg then guided Olinda home to victory with a quick-fire 56 not out, as the second XI made 5/194.
Olinda had a disappointing day in the third XI, as it was bowled out for 76 runs. Dean McCashney chalked up 33, but Montrose made 3/154.
The fourth XI also lost, after it was dismissed for 109. Norwood won with 5/131.
Craig Jennings almost became the second player to hit a ton for the club this round, when he piled on 97 for the fifth XI. Olinda cracked 239.
Eastfield was rolled for 59, as youngster Dom Woodfield starred with 6/44 off seven overs, while K. Brickley (3/11) also completed a fine afternoon.
