KNOX residents are calling for work to begin immediately on a warm water pool in Boronia.
Knox Council allocated $170,000 towards designing the $2.8 million warm water facility in its 2008-09 draft budget.
The 15×10 metre pool at Knox Leisureworks would have ramp access and purpose built change rooms.
The preferred design was released for public comment last month and is set to be formally adopted at the council’s 26 August meeting.
The council plans to allocate construction costs in its 2009-10 budget.
Knox CEO Graeme Emonson said the pool could be completed by 2010 if all went to plan.
But Boronia man Laszlo Sinclair said this was not soon enough.
Mr Sinclair has been campaigning for a hydrotherapy pool in Knox for the past 13 years.
Earlier this month he collected almost 100 signatures in just one hour on a petition asking the council to build the pool now.
“Two years’ time is not soon enough,” he said.
“I cannot go on like this. I cannot fight forever.”
Mr Sinclair said councillors were delaying the project and would blame new councillors elected in November if construction did not go ahead.
Knox mayor Jim Penna assured residents that the council had given the facility full consideration.
“This council has shown its strong commitment to a warm water pool in Knox and will continue to work for the future construction of this facility,” he said.
