THE public is being encouraged to enter police cells, without committing crime, of course.
Rather, Knox Police Station officers will alter their operations for one day to allow members of the public in for guided tours.
Tour groups will be able to look at police cells and interview rooms in addition to learning about the use of equipment including firearms.
Senior Constable Kevin Bridle said the tours, which are conducted annually, aim to close the divide between the police and the community.
“Often people think we’re the big bad men who go around locking people up, but activities like this show the kids they don’t need to fear us.”
Sen Const Bridle said police officers’ jobs were made easier when the community was involved with crime prevention.
“It is much better to have everyone’s eyes on crime than just the police’s,” he said.
Knox Police Station is opening its doors on Saturday 28 June. Bookings are essential.
