School supports spiritual growth

ST MARY’S Primary School, which opened in 1980, is situated in the Yarra Valley and has an enrolment of about 300 students who come from multi-culturally and socio-economically diverse backgrounds.
Families come from the townships surrounding Mt Evelyn and many of the children are bussed in from the outlying areas.
St Mary’s sits on about seven hectares of beautiful bushland, incorporating extensive play areas that include an oval, basketball and netball courts, tennis courts, a fitness track, bush chapel and three separate areas of play equipment.
The school has a well-stocked library, computers, and specialist teachers in library, performing arts, wellbeing, Italian and PE.
The school also supports many special programs that enhance the everyday curriculum.
The grounds are partly landscaped, focusing widely on trees and plants native to the local area and provide an opportunity to be used by staff, children and families for both recreational and educational purposes.
At St Mary’s Primary School, staff aim to foster the child’s spiritual growth; increase the child’s sense of self; widen the child’s sense of community; and foster the child’s academic and physical growth. Parents are encouraged to share in the education of the children. St Mary’s Primary School is at 58 Clegg Road, Mt Evelyn.
