A DREAM was the inspiration behind an upcoming art exhibition at Burrinja Arts Centre.
More than 10 years ago Canadian born Belgrave artist Sebastian Nicholas dreamt about the idea of the soul as a vessel for collecting the experiences needed to complete life’s journey.
The result is a collection of vessels which explores light, shadow and volume.
The community arts therapy worker said the display explores the different meanings of the world ‘vessel’.
“I like that the purpose of these vessels is ambiguous yet they all seem to be specific.”
Burrinja’s visual arts coordinator, Tilla Budden, compared the display to poetry.
“They are hand-made and purpose-built to carry precious items such as encouragement and acceptance.”
Mr Nicholas has lived in the Dandenong Ranges for almost three years. He has exhibited in Canada and throughout Australia.
Vessel will be on display at Burrinja, 351 Glenfern Road, Upwey, from 2-20 July with its official opening at 12.30pm on Sunday 6 July.
