Going back to bassist

By Tania Martin
SELBY Folk Club’s one-night only extravaganza on Friday 11 July will be a concert not to be missed.
Double bass player and singer Liz Frencham will feature in this night of non-stop entertainment.
Frencham is an experienced session double-bassist who graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium in 1998 and has been working as a full-time musician ever since.
Her distinctive double bass sound has graced countless original recordings in Australia and internationally.
Frencham was also recognised at the inaugural National Folk Awards in 2006 for her album of original songs, Jericho.
She is renowned for her warm and exuberant performances with artists such as, Jigzag, Frencham Smith and Dev’lish Mary.
Frencham will join Dev’lish Mary on stage on Friday, entertaining the audience with their old-time bluegrass, and western swing style.
This folk group’s interpretation of hillbilly and American roots music is first-class with a fantastic line-up of instruments including bull-fiddle, guitar, and claw hammer banjo.
Fred Smith, one of Australia’s most respected songwriters, will also entertain hills folk fans.
He is renowned for presenting his material with an engaging humour and a wry smile that has won the hearts at many festivals across Australia and North America.
Fred has just returned to Australia after three years of touring the North American circuit to release his new album, Texas – a collection of songs written in and about America.
He will entertain hills people with his unique style at this folk club extravaganza.
The folk club will open its doors at 7.30pm on Friday 11 July at the Selby Community House, Charles Street.
Ticket cost $10 and can be purchased at the door.
