THE foothills community will be in full voice this Saturday night as Ferntree Gully Recreation Reserve hosts the annual Knox Carols by Candlelight.
This year’s free event will again feature a collection of much-loved Australian performers who will lead the candle-lit throng in a festive sing-along to kick off the holiday season.
The line-up will include ARIA award-winning singer-songwriter Joe Camilleri, formerly of The Black Sorrows, country music star Adam Harvey, RocKwiz TV music quiz co-host Brian Nankervis, local actress Alyce Platt and, of course, Santa.
Platt – who has starred in TV dramas Neighbours, Sons and Daughters and, most recently City Homicide – grew up just minutes away from the venue and is looking forward to returning to the scene of so childhood memories.
Other popular additions to the carols mix will be the 70-strong National Children’s Choir and a 25-piece concert band conducted by Australian Army Band director Major Peter Grant.
Knox City Council has also organised the event to be a celebration of the upcoming International Day of People With a Disability which is on Monday 3 December, meaning the site will be an easy-to-access venue.
The carols song booklet will also include print in large text and there will be AusLan interpreters on stage and two large screens located next to the stage.
The evening will begin with free children’s activities from 5-7pm and a children’s stage program from 7-8pm.
The main program will then run from 8-10pm.
Ferntree Gully Recreation Reserve is on Brenock Park Drive, Ferntree Gully.
