OLINDA-FERNY Creek Football Club has kicked off its season with a bit of fun with its family day proving to be a raving success recently.
Event organiser Peter Cole said despite the cool and cloudy weather on Sunday, 2 April the day was a huge success with more than 500 residents turning up to sample some of the huge range of fun activities.
Mr Cole said the annual event helps to raise awareness of the club.
He said its intention is to remind residents of the club’s community focus and to give families an enjoyable day out.
“Having entertained the children it is hoped some of them will play for the club one day,” he said.
He said the family day had something for everyone from a giant slide and jumping castle to a bag pipe band and a high striker machine.
Mr Cole said in 2005 Olinda-Ferny Creek Football Club won the division two premiership and that the club will now go onto division one this year.
He said a promotion to division one brings increased operating costs and that the club has invited every local resident to consider becoming a sponsor or to just come along to a few games during the year.
“It is a very friendly club that welcomes everyone to support their local football team,” he said.
Mr Cole said raising money was not the main priority for the family day and that this year the club broke even.
Anyone interested in becoming a sponsor, buying a membership or becoming a player for the club should contact Peter Cole on 0439 997 583.
