HILLS tennis hopefuls can learn how to play like Lleyton Hewitt or Alicia Molik as Ferny Creek Tennis Club serves up a new program.
As Australian Open fever grips the nation a new program has been launched.
Tennis Hot Shots was launched yesterday and will now be available at Ferny Creek.
The program is a junior development initiative and is aimed at 5 to 12 year olds, who are either participating or want to start playing tennis.
Stuart Sutterby of Extreme Tennis in Ferny Creek said the program is a great initiative, which will target the grassroots level of the sport, and will get kids hooked on tennis.
“Tennis is a great game for life and one that anyone can play,” he said.
Two-time US Open champion, Pat Rafter, will support the program as the Tennis Hot Shots national ambassador.
Sutterby said with Rafter supporting the program it is sure to be a winner with the kids.
He said the program is similar to football’s Auskick and cricket’s Milo Have A Go programs.
All new players who enrol for lessons in term one at Extreme Tennis will automatically be registered for the program and receive a Hot Shots pack valued at $20.
The pack includes a hat, radio, shoe tag, tennis balls, water bottle, tote bag and an activity book.
Sutterby also said tennis at Ferny Creek will resume in term one despite the introduction of Stage Three water restrictions.
He said the club is only allowed to water half its courts under the restrictions but it still has three courts that can be watered so play will go ahead as normal.
