Long Tan battle service

By Melissa Meehan
A SERVICE to mark the anniversary of the battle of Long Tan will be held at Boronia RSL on Monday 18 August.
The anniversary has become known as Vietnam Veterans Day and offers an opportunity for the war’s returned service men and women to reunite and for the public to pay tribute to their sacrifice.
The Boronia commemoration will begin at 6am with a gunfire breakfast and a dawn service.
There is also a service at the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne beginning at midday.
This year the services will particularly remember the veterans who fought and died at the battles of fire support bases Coral and Balmoral during the month of May and early June in 1968.
