IN a marathon effort, five Monbulk runners brought home silver in the recent cross country State Championships.
The Monbulk College students went head-to-head with endurance runners from across the state for the second consecutive year.
The year 8 students including Nick Keegan, Corey Phillips, Lachlan Meadows, Tye Frazzetto and Matt Taylor competed in the Under 14 and recorded a back-to-back victory for second place.
Newcomer Josh Fidanza also competed in the Under 13 and crossed the line in an impressive 26th place in just his first championships.
But it was the Under 14 boys team which made their mark this year.
They crossed the line in second place in the team stakes and also recorded improved personal best (PB) times.
Meadows led the charge crossing the line in eighth position, rearing up behind him was Phillips at number 28, Keegan was also impressive at 49th, Taylor 63rd and Frazzetto 73rd.
Teacher Paul Wilson said all the boys had shown great dedication to the sport.
