RANGES Burrinja Folk Club will present acoustic performances from Jenny Thomas and Leticia Maher at Burrinja Café in Upwey on Friday 29 August.
Thomas trained in classical viola at Victorian College of the Arts but has also played the Irish fiddle with a world fusion band, toured with Circus Oz, and released an album of traditional Australian folk tunes.
Irish, Scandinavian, Australian folk, and Eastern music have all influenced her unusual and fascinating sound. Thomas recently toured Europe and Australia where her ability to sing while playing the violin wowed audiences.
An award-winning singer, guitarist and songwriter, Maher is known for her distinctively high, clear voice.
Her sound ranges from folk and pop to jazz and blues.
Maher’s second album is to be released later this year.
She will perform with Chris Pain on harmonica and John Perri on percussion.
Knoxfield’s Tim Hackett will open the evening with his folk and roots tunes.
Ranges Burrinja Folk Club is held on the last Friday of each month at Burrinja Café, 351 Glenfern Road, Upwey.
Entry is $10 for adults and $7 concession. Children enter free.
The music kicks off at 8pm.
