Hawks halted by Healesville

By Gary Wragg
MONBULK’S season ended with mixed emotions when they crashed out of the finals race against Healesville, then celebrated the end of the illustrious career of coach Chris Hughson.
After bravely coming back from the dead, the Hawks succumbed to the Bloods in a desperate final quarter. Immediately afterwards, they surrounded their coach in the centre of the ground.

Netball
MONBULK’S B Grade netballers provided a bright spot when they won through to the Grand Final with a resounding win against top side Warburton-Millgrove.
The girls were on a mission, having savoured the bitterness of missing out last year and immediately took the initiative through Gemma Pearson and Lisa Boyle, who between them controlled much of the court.
Up forward, Emma Mullinder again dominated the ring and added further to an impressive tally of goals, while getting great support from Grace Sands, who added 11 goals of her own.
The Hawks have finally won through to the big one and await the result of the Preliminary Final. Monbulk 49 d Warburton-Millgrove 41.
Best: E. Mullinder, G. Sands, L. Boyle, G. Pearson.
Goals: E. Mullinder 38, G. Sands 11.
