ITALIAN exchange students who spent the past month at Belgrave South Primary School will return to their home country on Thursday.
Italian teacher Luciana said her colleague Barbara and the students were enjoying their time at Belgrave.
An Italian flavour has been a feature of the school this year.
Eight Grade 6 students, principal Fran Luke, and teacher Bec Crawford had stayed with the Italian visitors in their homeland in April.
Belgrave South students donned Italian colours and costumes on 20 June to raise cash for the Italian group’s trip to Australia.
There are just 80 students at Luciana’s school.
“This school here is much bigger but it’s like a big family,” she said. “We feel like we are at home. People are so friendly.”
Alessio, 15, is the only boy in the group, which includes two 10-year-old girls, another aged 16, and a fourth, 18.
Belgrave South principal Fran Luke said she and the students were thrilled to be reunited with their Italian friends.
“We want to repay them and give them good experiences like we had. If we can make them half as happy as they made us I’ll be thrilled.”
Barbara and Luciana thanked the school and the community for making them feel so welcome.
