Light on blackspot

MT EVELYN residents can now have their say on proposed plans to improve an intersection blackspot in the town centre.
An information session will be held next month at the Mt Evelyn RSL sub-branch.
The meeting will give residents the chance to have their say on a proposed $860,000 worth of improvements for the intersection between Wray Crescent and York Road.
Shire of Yarra Ranges mayor Tim Heenan said the meeting would also outline changes to the Wray Crescent bus stop. He said the changes would involve moving the bus stop closer to the town centre, improving access for commuters while allowing larger buses to service the town.
Cr Heenan has called on all Mt Evelyn people to attend the meeting.
“We have a wonderful opportunity to come up with a fully integrated solution to traffic, accessibility and safety issues in Mt Evelyn,” he said.
Cr Heenan said the plans include the construction of a fully signalised intersection, road widening to include four lanes along York Road to the Hereford Road roundabout.
Right hand turning lanes to access shops on both sides of York Road, service road improvements and a safe crossing point for pedestrians have also been outlined.
People wanting to have their say about the plans should attend the meeting on Monday 13 October from 6pm, at Mt Evelyn RSL, 49 Birmingham Road.
