HILLS people can now enjoy a snag, with the opening of a state-of-the-art barbecue in the heart of Emerald.
The launch of the barbecue on 10 September was the final stage of a 10-year redevelopment of Puffing Billy Park in Kilvington Drive.
The town’s Rotary club and the Shire of Cardinia are providing a place where families can relax at the park.
Stage one of the project was the installation of a rotunda at the park, the Rotary club splitting the costs with the council.
Rotary member Russ Nielsen said the barbecue was the final stage. The structure cost $7000, and the canopy surrounding it was provided by funds from local sponsors.
Mr Neilson said Emerald Co-op Mitre 10 and Kevin Mathisen of Gembrook Industries had been instrumental in putting up the canopy.
Mitre 10 provided the materials and Mr Mathisen built the structure.
Mr Nielsen said it was good to see the park project finished after all this time.
“It’s also nice to see so many groups working together to give this to the community,” he said.
