The racing Squirts get a helping hand

‘THE Squirts’ are now on track for a podium finish at this year’s RACV Energy Breakthrough Trial.
The Cockatoo Primary School students were last week granted a boost in their drive to raise $2500 for the race.
The National Australia Bank Emerald has kick-started the school’s fund raising with a $300 donation, plus a backpack, pen, hat, drink bottle and T-shirt for each team member.
Eight students, teachers and a host of dedicated parents are now in training for the trial in November.
The school has been participating in the trial for the past 14 years but this will be just the second year the students have taken up the challenge of the triathlon section in the competition.
Teacher Sarah Wintle said the team, using a human powered vehicle, would endure the eight-hour event, which consists of an obstacle course and time trial.
Ms Wintle said the school appreciated all the support the local community had given in the program.
The Squirts train twice a week at Emerald Secondary College working on their fitness and teamwork.
In November, the team will travel to Maryborough to compete against students from across the state.
The school is now calling for sponsors to help. Anyone wanting to support The Squirts should call the school on 5968 8017.
