BOMBER Michael Epstein is riding high after he was chosen for the honorary Australian squad at a recent football carnival.
The 47-year-old Emerald footballer has been playing since he was just eight.
At the recent, Australian Masters Football Carnival, Epstein took to the field in the Victorian Metro squad.
During the seven-day tournament, the metro side won one and lost two games, leaving them outside finals contention.
But at the end of the day, Epstein was one of 990 footballers to be chosen for the Australian honorary side.
Epstein said he would continue to step out on the paddock as long as his body can hold it together.
“I have always loved the game and have never lost the enjoyment,” he said.
He has been playing for Emerald in the super rules squad – for over 35s – for the past two years.
Epstein said footy has always been a big part of his life.
He first won a spot on the honorary Australian side in 1992 when the carnival was held in Port Lincoln, in South Australia.
Despite years of dedication, the time to play AFL footy passed Epstein by.
“I wished I could play AFL but I should have tried 25 years ago,” he said.
Epstein said the tournament was great fun and hopes to do it again next year.
