Christmas parody

A PARODY of Christmas past will give audiences something to cackle about.
Nutcracker is the latest play to take centre stage at the Lilydale Athenaeum Theatre Company (ATC).
The hilarious show is about the little sisters of Hoboken who have turned their convent basement into a television studio.
The pair set about producing their first Christmas special, a ballet based on the Nutcracker. But things go a little wrong when a mixture of the prepared programming and some of the sisters’ shenanigans go to air.
Audiences will be kept in stiches as the Reverend Mother recalls her misspent youth with a travelling carnival.
The play also shows tough-talking Sister Robert Anne singing about how all she wants for Christmas is a one-night stand – at Carnegie Hall, and Father Virgil getting progressively drunker as he explains how to make a holiday fruitcake.
The curtain will be raised on this hilarious play on Tuesday 18 November and will run until 6 December.
Doors open at 8pm and the show will start at 8.30pm at the ATC, Castella Street, Lilydale. A matinee show will also be staged on 30 November at 2pm. To book call 9735 1777.
The Lilydale ATC has also welcomed Rochford Wines on board as its corporate sponsor. Rochford will showcase its award-winning wines at opening and closing nights of each production for the 2009 season. Alan Quantrell of Lilydale ATC said the company was looking forward to an exciting and successful season ahead.
