Business as usual

THE STAGE two redevelopment of the Dandenong market has commenced.
However it’s business as usual at this thriving market centre, which will continue to trade 7am-4pm Tuesdays, 7am-5pm (general merchandise 4pm) Fridays and 7am -3pm Saturdays throughout the entire construction period.
Marketing manager Penny Courtie said that while there were minor changes to some stallholder locations and car parking arrangements, the market would be operating at full steam until its anticipated completion by April next year.
“New and refurbished buildings, including a new meat, fish and delicatessen hall, a new food hall, increased space for fruit and vegetable stalls and improved access for pedestrians and motorists will breathe new life into the facility and bring it into the 21st century, ensuring the market is a Dandenong icon for a long time to come,” Penny said.
“The aim is to make Dandenong Market a landmark regional shopping destination for the south-east.”
Boasting fantastic bargains and a friendly atmosphere, a visit to Dandenong market is a fun and exciting day out.
Operating since 1866 and now with more than 100 stalls, the market has great deals everywhere.
With a great range of stalls selling clothing, giftware, shoes, toys, cards, jewellery, plants, fabrics and prints, stallholders of various nationalities provide a variety and type of produce not available elsewhere.
The Dandenong Market caters for shoppers’ needs, including more than 17 fresh fruit and vegetable stalls, two fishmongers, a halal butcher, a poultry shop and a deli.
Shoppers will also find cheese stalls, nuts and dried fruits, confectionery and dry grocery goods.
The market on the corner of Clow and Cleeland Streets, Dandenong also offers a range of services including hairdressing, key cutting, engraving, two ATM machines and a Tattslotto agency.
