MONBULK’S Country Women’s Association (CWA) is digging deep to provide Victoria’s bushfire victims with basic essentials.
The groups jumped into action just hours after the first devastating news broke on the disaster.
They made more than 950 sandwiches and supplied breakfast and dinner for more than 200 people at the Whittlesea relief centre last Sunday (8 February).
Since then the CWA ladies have been working around the clock to put together essential packages for people affected by the fires.
Monbulk CWA’s Wendy Dennison said a relief centre had also been set up in town at the Wellington Cottage in Moores Road.
She said volunteers were busy putting together bags of essential items.
“We are doing toiletry packs for families and single people and craft packs to keep the kids entertained,” Ms Dennison said.
The Monbulk CWA is working in conjunction with the Red Cross and local businesses to provide basic items such as toilet paper, tissues, soap and toothpaste.
Ms Dennison said any donations were welcome and could be made at the Safeway supermarket in Monbulk.
There is a list of all the items needed at the supermarket and a trolley where items can be dropped.
Local mothers have also been busy baking goods for the CWA to take to the relief centres.
Ms Dennison said the group would be working closely with the people affected in the Yarra Valley region over the next few weeks.
Anyone wanting to make a donation or to find out more about the CWA’s appeal can call Carmel on 0414 387 332 or Wendy on 9756 7012.
