Silvan on strong ground

By Keith Thompson
ROUND 11 of the Yarra Valley Cricket Association began on Saturday with 36 degrees seeming rather cooler than the previous few days, which had been closer to the 43 mark.
By early afternoon a cooling southerly breeze had come in and it was an acceptable day for the summer game.
DJ Strachan Shield: Silvan travelled to Gruyere and batting first was all out for 253 with J. Harvie scoring 53 and C. Reynolds on 36. Matt Tilney was again in the wickets taking 5 for 52 assisted by G. Sweetten 2/41. In reply, Gruyere District was 3 for 59 at stumps with Chris Foster 22 not out and Mark Appleby fell for 19.
R A Finger: Healesville was all out for 326 with Richard Maile scoring 98, Mark Powell with 61. H. Breurers bowled well to gain figures of 4 for 88. Mt Evelyn stand every chance to take a win at the small and fast Mt Evelyn oval, but the home side will have to bat well above their recent average to get that total.
