HILLS school students have found creative ways to help Black Saturday bushfire victims.
Five senior boys at Belgrave Heights Christian School baked more than 700 biscuits to send to the Whittlesea relief centre last week.
Students also held a free dress day to raise cash for fellow students at Plenty Valley Christian School where 17 families lost their homes in the Black Saturday blazes.
The school of just 180 families has raised $2000 so far, and principal Andy Callow said the money was still flowing in.
“We’ve found that people respond better to a targeted appeal,” he said.
Sherbrooke Community School students want to connect to young fire victims.
The Sassafras school has asked businesses and individuals to donate new or second hand MP3 players for teens in fire ravaged towns.
Assistant principal Kerry Bennetto said students wanted to brighten their spirits.
“We were trying to find something that linked kids to kids,” she said.
Players can be dropped off at the school in Sassafras or at the Local and Global shop in Belgrave.
“Music is especially important to young people and can help restore a sense of normality and is a means of healing,” principal Bob Shepherd said.
A crazy hair, pyjama and dress up day on Friday 20 February raised more than $800 to buy the MP3 players.
“It’s an ongoing project and we’re hoping for more donations in the coming weeks,” Ms Bennetto said.
Five Mt Evelyn Christian School students have collected more than $600 for the Salvation Army.
Students’ letters and poems to fire victims are displayed at the relief centre in Healesville.
