Rodeo rides on into town

COCKATOO’S Rodeo may have been postponed for a week but that didn’t put off loyal fans.
More than 4,000 people returned to the region for the second time in two-weeks to see the rodeo ride back into town.
Organisers were forced to postpone the event on Saturday, 14 March, following a morning deluge.
But that didn’t put fans off from returning.
Rodeo spokesman Graham Steer said it was fantastic to see everyone return.
“It was a magnificent night,” he said.
“Everyone came back – all the interstate cowboys returned, and the food stall holders.”
Mr Steer said it was also an amazing effort by all the local clubs who helped organise the rodeo as they all had their own events on the weekend.
Emerald’s newest top cop Sergeant Fiona Tolmi also kept the crowd entertained, riding into the rodeo on horseback to officially open the event.
She then spent the night meeting and greeting residents.
Mr Steer said it couldn’t have gone better with everyone acting well behaved.
Although it’s not known exactly how much was raised, the Emerald Football Club hopes to now be able to build a playground for kids at the Chandler Reserve.
