IT’S not often that students rush back to school, but there are some exceptions.
Current and former Macclesfield Primary School students recently did just that to help celebrate its centenary.
Hundreds of past students travelled from as far as Western Australia for a weekend of festivities last month.
The weekend started on Saturday 21 March with a twilight festival.
It was a great chance for past students, teachers and locals to catch up on the good old days.
The festival had something for everyone, from food stalls and rides to a number of displays.
Celebrations continued the following day at a reunion with the oldest past student, Maud Row, helping to plant a tree.
Former school council president Doug Cordell also launched a history book of the school.
The book was written by local historian Margaret McInnes and features a detailed history of the school with plenty of old photographs for people to marvel over.
Teacher Tony Fullarton said the weekend surpassed all expectations.
“It was a superb. It was really good to see everyone.”
Mr Fullarton has been teaching at the school for more than 25 years and said it was great to see some old faces.
“There were so many people with connections to the school, stretching back to the 1920s – it was amazing to see,” he said.
