Help for burn-offs

SEASONAL firefighters will remain on duty in Gembrook and Olinda to complete autumn burn-offs in the Dandenong Ranges.
The Department of Sustainability and Environment will station eight Project Firefighters (PFFs) at Gembrook and nine at Olinda until the end of next month.
DSE eastern metropolitan fire manager Anthony Maxwell said PFFs enhanced firefighting resources.
They helped with track clearing, road maintenance and fuel reduction burning, Mr Maxwell said, and they were often members of the community.
“These firefighters bring important bush skills and knowledge to the team,” he said.
Details about planned burns in the Dandenong Ranges is available from www.dse.gov.au or by phoning the Victorian Bushfire Information Line on 1800 240 667.
