Sewing up support

By Casey Neill
QUILTS from interstate and overseas will soon be on show in Upwey to raise funds for Black Saturday bushfire victims.
The Bushfire Quilt Show on Easter Sunday will feature more than 50 quilts from Victoria, Western Australia, New South Wales and New Zealand.
Organiser Kelly Wickenton will deliver the creations to those who lost possessions and loved ones on Black Saturday.
The quilt drive has exceeded Ms Wickenton’s expectations.
She runs a long arm quilting business. The project began with a small group of friends and clients, but word soon spread across internet chat rooms and quilting forums.
Ms Wickenton said a quilt was one of the most compassionate and loving gifts anyone could receive.
“The hours and love that go into making a quilt is truly priceless,” she said.
“Every quilt has come complete with a letter or card from its creator, with well wishes to its new owner.”
The show will raise funds materials to complete several quilts.
Ms Wickenton will donate excess cash to the Upper Ferntree Gully CFA.
The Bushfire Quilt Show will be at Burrinja, 351 Glenfern Road, Upwey, from 9.30am to 3pm on 11 April. Entry is a gold coin.
Anyone who would like to donate a quilt or materials can do so at the show, by calling Ms Wickenton on 9754 6628 or by sending them to Fernview Cottage – Bushfire Quilt Drive, PO Box 1330, Upwey, Victoria 3158.
