UPWEY-TECOMA Football Club is hoping to take out back-to-back victories in the annual Anzac Day blockbuster match at Monbulk on Saturday.
But Monbulk is determined to spoil the fun and bring home the shield for the first time.
The game is one of the few matches sanctioned to play on the historic day.
After the success of the inaugural match last year, both clubs are looking forward to an exciting day on the field.
A large crowd is expected with the under-18s kick-starting the action at 10.30am, followed by the reserves at 12.30pm.
Both the Monbulk and Upwey-Belgrave RSL branches have worked closely with the clubs to arrange a special pre-game Anzac Day service at 2.30pm.
Karen Noonan will lead the Dandenong Ranges Sing Australia choir in the national anthem and local girl Lauren McAllister will play the Last Post on the bugle.
A minute’s silence will precede the first bounce of the seniors match.
Upwey-Tecoma’s captain Ryan van Hoorn said his players were hoping to bring home the honours again this year.
The club had recruited strongly this year and was looking for a great start to the season.
“It’s also a tough game,” van Hoorn said.
Monbulk captain Shannon Koole said the Hawks were fielding a young side this season.
“We have a group of young blokes coming up through the ranks and some new faces,” he said.
Koole is confident Monbulk can pull off the win this year and bring home the Anzac Day Shield.
