Bulleen beats fancied Suns

UNDEFEATED Sherbrooke Suns and Bulleen Boomers faced off for early-season bragging rights in Big V basketball’s men’s first division, with the Suns taking the honours, 106-75.
Bulleen Boomers, coming off a win at Coburg in the last round, were keen on maintaining their great start to the year.
But the Suns were also coming off an impressive round before the break and proved themselves the form team of the competition knocking off the Boomers at home.
Sherbrooke took the early lead, ahead 25-17 at the end of the first term.
They extended their lead in the second term, despite the home side Boomers shooting 64 per cent from the field in the half.
As Bulleen struggled to keep up the scoring pace the Suns slowly began to pull away and the game was virtually theirs by the start of the last quarter.
Sherbrooke’s James Denton, with 21 points, was judged MVP while for the Boomers Ryan Fooks showed the way with 17.
In the Youth League men’s first division Bulleen carried over last week’s form to beat the more fancied Suns, 111 v 74.
Matthew Banovic was outstanding with 27 points and 15 boards in a dominant display that led the Boomers to victory.
Bulleen broke the game open early and to finish the first quarter with a 17-point lead. From there the Boomers continued their dominance and by half-time the lead had blown out to 26 points.
Despite a solid performance from Jake Driessen with 18 points and Dale Rohrmann with 15 points the Suns just had no answers to strength of Bulleen.
