Back from the bushfires

By Casey Neill
The second annual Chan Academy Australia exhibition Renewal will feature works from Melba Nielsen depicting nature’s spectacular recovery from flames.
Neilsen has worked as an illustrator and discovered Chan painting 30 years ago.
The ink-on-rice-paper paintings are based on an ancient style originating in China.
Buddhists adopted the technique to create beautiful artworks reflecting nature as a form of meditation.
Neilsen now teaches The Way of the Brush at the Chan Academy in Upwey.
The exhibition also includes paintings from her students.
Renewal’s official opening will be held from 1pm to 3pm on Sunday 7 June.
The exhibition will be on display from 3 to 21 June.
