MOUNTAIN District Learning Centre (MDLC) has been part of the Ferntree Gully community for more than 35 years and was the first community centre to be established in the Knox area.
As a Registered Training Organisation, it aims to provide opportunities for adults to increase their range of skills, knowledge and career options.
MDLC offers a unique study environment for people who are looking for an alternative to high school or TAFE.
Courses are offered in many areas of interest including VCE/VCAL, Information Technology and vocational training, along with a wide range of interest and support groups for the local and neighbouring community, all offered in a welcoming and supportive environment.
In term three, the centre will be expanding its course and interest group options.
One of the many new things available will be a women’s discussion group, which will be an informal group where participants can gain knowledge and swap interesting ideas and viewpoints on topical issues.
The group will be run by a professional counsellor who will provide material about different life issues which can be used as the basis for discussion.
Sessions will be held on a Thursday afternoon and will only cost a gold coin each week to attend.
Also available for students looking to return to study will be VCE Visual Communications Units 1 and 2. This will be available on Fridays in semester two.
Free information sessions will give even more choice to the community, with topics such as women’s health and buying shares.
Guest speakers from Consumer Affairs and the CFA are also on the agenda.
MDLC is a great place to connect with new friends. Everyone is encouraged to take that first step into something new.
