Cop is out of the blue

By Bridget Cook
MORE than 25 years of service to the Monbulk Police Station was celebrated and commended at Steve Price’s retirement party on 20 May.
About 70 family, friends, work colleagues, community members and fellow retirees gathered at the Monbulk RSL to thank Mr Price for his 35 years of service to the Victorian Police, in particular the last 25 years at the Monbulk Police Station.
Mr Price said he was forced to retire due to a recurring heart condition.
“I would have loved to stay,” he said.
“I will really miss my workmates and the community in general the most.”
Several presentations were made to Mr Price on the day including a certificate of service from the District Inspector, a tie and hip flask from the Police Association and a picture frame from the Monbulk Police Station.
Sergeant Alan Fincher, from Monbulk Police Station, said Steve had always been extremely hard-working, conscientious and fair in his dealings with people.
“He has been a significant contribution to the Monbulk community for a quarter of a century and will be greatly missed,” Sgt Fincher said.
“We are fortunate in securing a high quality replacement for Steve in Leading Senior Constable Peter Edyvane.”
Mr Price, a Mt Evelyn resident, said although he didn’t work at the station any more, he would still be a part of the Monbulk community.
“I’m still in and around Monbulk almost every day and pop in to the station and the RSL whenever I can,” he said.
