UPWEY newborn Maddison Betty Jo Shaw was in more of a hurry than most to check out her new digs.
Her mum, Wendy, gave birth to the bub in her own bedroom on Monday 1 June.
“It was pretty special,” Wendy said.
The mum-to-be began to feel ‘uncomfortable’ about two hours before her third child entered the world.
“We went to go to bed at 1am and it was not sitting right, and I got up at 2am to make a cuppa,” she said.
“Straight away I started feeling nauseated and throwing up.”
Maddison’s Dad, Chris, called an ambulance when Wendy’s water broke.
“I wasn’t expecting it,” he said.
“I actually said to her ‘do you want me to pack the car?’ and she said ‘nah, it’s still a while off’.”
Chris stayed on the phone with the triple 000 operator while he waited for the ambulance to arrive.
“Chris was pretty cool and calm. He wasn’t stressed,” Wendy said.
“I didn’t have time to be nervous.”
Maddison was born at 3.15am, weighing in at 6 pounds, 14 ounces (3.1 kilograms).
“The ambulance made it just in time,” Wendy said.
The crew took mother and baby to Upper Ferntree Gully’s Angliss Hospital.
Both returned home on Wednesday.
Maddison has been a model infant. Chris has hardly heard her cry.
“She’s a good babe,” Wendy said.
Maddison arrived one day after her due date.
Wendy’s son Lucas, 14, was born five weeks early via an emergency caesarean. Daughter Tyla, 10, arrived in hospital following a six-hour labour.
“Nice and easy, no surprises with her,” Wendy said.
“Maddison just thought she’d play her own game.”
