A FERNY Creek woman is lucky to be alive, after her car spun out of control and hitting a tree last Thursday night.
Police said the 49-year-old woman was travelling along Mt Dandenong Tourist Road near Olinda, shortly after 10pm, when she lost control of her car. Monbulk’s Senior Constable Dave Creek said the woman lost control on a right-hand bend just after the Cuckoo Restaurant. “She spun 180 degrees, slid backwards over an embankment and hit a tree,” he said.
“She’s extremely lucky,” he said.
An ambulance spokeswoman said paramedics arrived to find the woman trapped in a car smashed up against a tree. Her legs were trapped and she had potential spinal injuries.
The woman was stabilised before being airlifted to The Alfred hospital. Police are continuing investigations but believe speed was a factor in the crash.
