Emerald snatch must-win match

By Bill Kuys
A BIG game for Emerald sitting on five wins and five losses and Thornton on their own turf hard to beat, a must-win for Emerald to make sure of the finals.
As they have done in our last couple of encounters, Thornton came out strongly in the first quarter, showing why they have played in the last couple of grand finals and lead by two goals at quarter-time.
The second quarter and Thornton kept the pressure up, getting away to a five-goal break, but Emerald responded kicking four on the trot, to be only one point down at the long break.
The third quarter was a great tussle, with both teams finding it hard to score goals, however Thornton took a one goal lead going into the last quarter.
In the last quarter, Thornton kicked the first goal and opened up a handy break. Emerald needed to lift and did with young fit legs in the middle, running the ball out and Michael Scoon taking some great grabs and feeding the ball off to David Reilly who gave us some great run. Emerald levelled the score then ran away with the game in the dying minutes, to win by 13 points.

The game began in overcast, warm conditions and started with a lot of talk and run, which enabled Emerald to open up with four goals to one, in the last term.
With another couple of first gamers for this match, everyone put in effort all over the very large ground, to stamp their authority on the contest and kick another five goals to one, for the second quarter, to be up by 50 points at half-time.
Thornton tried to play attacking footy and were able to break through the midfield, but the bomber defence was extremely solid, only allowing a further two goals for the match, as Emerald kicked another seven goals.

A BIG game for Emerald playing Healesville, with an under-manned side.
Healesville started well, winning centre clearances and kicking early goals, luckily they were inaccurate from the little bit of pressure we provided.
As the game progressed, the boys’ lack of pressure became evident, as Healesville kicked away to a healthy lead.

The Emerald girls started the game slowly and it showed in the first quarter break, with the score even at nine all.
Coach, Rachel Fox, made a few changes in the team and the girls responded with a better second and third quarter.
Emerald 42 def Thornton-Eildon 33.

@BT Sport Sub Mail: Netball B Grade

EMERALD’S B Grade is really coming together as a team, with the girls bringing home a win against Thornton-Eildon.
The girls had a very good first quarter, outscoring Thornton Eildon and this was the winning key for the girls.
The second and the third quarters were not so good for the Emerald girls, but they regrouped for the last quarter and held on to win.
Emerald 33 d Thornton-Eildon 26.
