Club birthday

THE Knox-based Fiji Indian Senior Citizens Association recently celebrated its 10th anniversary.
A small group of dedicated Fijian people of Indian origin founded the association on 20 June 1999.
The hundred-plus members now meet monthly, host various guest speakers and take bus trips throughout Victoria. Knox mayor David Cooper said Knox boasted the largest Indian population in Victoria and the group embodied the qualities of inclusion and tolerance the community strived for.
President Liladhar Jeraj said the group would continue current activities into its second decade but hoped to initiate more interaction with other community groups. “This way we would gain a better understanding of the different cultures, thus promote an understanding and tolerance of each other,” he said.
“Even at this juncture of our lives we should continue to have a positive mindset and get involved in as many organisations as possible.”
