LITTLE Birdy guitarist Simon Leach hopes to raise the ceiling when the band hits the Ferntree Gully Hotel stage next weekend.
Leach promised entertainment from start to finish and spectacular lights and visuals at the 12 September gig.
“We want to try to put on a big show,” he said.
He said the band was looking forward to returning to the venue. They played The Middle in May to promote their latest album Confetti and were surprised at the large turnout.
“Hopefully it will be bigger and better than the last one,” Leach said.
“We want to raise the ceiling.”
This show is part of the band’s national theatre tour.
The quartet were working on a final set list when the Mail caught up with Leach late last month
They hope to revisit some old crowd favourites and are keen to play ‘a few quieter numbers’ including Confetti hidden track Porcelain and the explosive Crazy.
“It takes ages,” Leach said.
“It’s such an emotional decision. We’re trying to create a moment.”
The crowd at their last Ferntree Gully Hotel show helped inspire the shortlist.
“People were saying ‘this song’s my favourite’,” Leach said.
He was surprised at how many people hung around for a chat with the band after the show.
“It was cool,” he said.
Sydney melodic-rockers Red Riders and Queenslanders Hungry Kids of Hungary will support Little Birdy.
Red Riders also joined the band on their 2006 Hollywood tour.
“They’re a band that we really like,” Leach said. “They’ve got an ’80s tinge but more folky.”
Little Birdy heard Hungary Kids of Hungary play earlier this year. Leach said they were ‘one of those bands on the list’ and happened to be available.
“It worked out great,” he said.
“We try to promote new bands that we like.”
Leach said the band wanted to build a cohesive night of music.
“We try to make the bands similar but not the same,” he said.
“You need a point of difference so you’re not listening to the same act all night.”
He encouraged concert-goers to come down early.
“It’s exciting listening to new stuff,” he said.
Tickets are $33 and available from the Ferntree Gully Hotel, 1130 Burwood Highway, Ferntree Gully, www.ferntreegullyhotel.com.au or by calling 9758 6544.
