HILLS musicians will take centre stage later this month to help raise cash and awareness for the Tecoma Action Group’s bid to stop a supermarket development.
The group has been fighting against the proposed Safeway development for almost 12 months.
The $7 million development for a supermarket, speciality stores and underground car park was rejected by the Shire of Yarra Ranges in March.
But an appeal has since been lodged and is scheduled to go before VCAT this week.
Group spokesperson Anita Dealy said the night of entertainment aimed to raise cash towards the costs of commissioning a traffic survey for the VCAT appeal. The survey has cost the group more than $6500.
Ms Dealy said the night was also a chance to let the community know what is happening with the project.
It will feature popular local acts including Dave McFarlane, Christina Green, Michelle Chandler, Denise Smith and Sammy J Trip.
Janette Gerri, Stax and Phil Smith and the Realistics will also entertain the crowd.
This night of non-stop entertainment will be held at the Burrinja Gallery Café, 351 Glenfern Road, Upwey, and costs $10.
Dinner is also available at the café but bookings are essential and can be made by calling 9754 5707.
