A TASTE of the Orient will touch down in Mount Evelyn this weekend.
Chinese Lion Spectacular is the theme for this year’s street party which is set to attract more than half the town’s population.
The event sprung from the Mount Evelyn Township Improvement Committee almost 10 years ago.
Co-ordinator Jan Simmons said the party showcased the community’s talents and skills. “It’s about bringing us together,” she said.
Ms Simmons is expecting about 5000 of Mount Evelyn’s 9000 residents to take part.
“There’s enough happening to keep people around all day,” she said.
The fun will kick off in Wray Crescent at 10am this Saturday 24 October and wrap up at 3pm. Chinese lion dance performers will hit the streets at 11am and 1.30pm and the Biggest Pram Walk will begin at the main stage at 10am.
Local buskers, musicians and performers will entertain the crowd as they make their way through market and food stalls.
Party-goers can check out Chinese themed children’s activities and face painting, a Chinese hair and make-up display, Mount Evelyn History Group exhibit and the Morrisons Childcare Art Show.
“The little tackers create masterpieces,” Ms Simmons said.
Yarra Valley FM radio will broadcast live from the event and CFA crews will be on hand with tankers and a mini helicopter.
