Step on the fitness trail

MOUNT Evelyn mothers can step out, get fit and win cash this November.
Mount Evelyn Pram Walkers will hold a pedometer challenge for four weeks from 6 November.
Spokeswoman Tara Gavin said participants were eligible for weekly prizes as well as a $250 major prize at the end of the competition. The aim is to take the most steps.
“It’s a bit of a community event for the mum’s around Mount Evelyn,” she said.
“It will also make them aware of how much activity they’re actually doing each day.”
Ms Gavin said mothers often put their own health and fitness aside.
“It’s often the last thing on their mind,” she said.
Walking was a cheap alternative to a gym membership and now was a great time to start with summer just around the corner.
“It’s a good way to tone up and exercise,” she said.
Ms Gavin hoped the event would also encourage mothers to join the Mount Evelyn Pram Walkers for their twice-weekly jaunts around the town.
They formed in October 2007 and meet at the Mount Evelyn community link at 9.15am each Wednesday and Friday morning.
Pedometer challenge entry is free.
