OLINDA residents will be able to do their banking closer to home as early as next week.
The sub-branch of the Bendigo Community Bank will be officially launched on Friday 11 December.
Chairman of the Upwey and district division Peter Marke said the sub-branch would become a focus for local businesses and residents and a community asset.
The new Olinda-Mount Dandenong sub-branch will also be run under the auspice of the Upwey division similar to the Cockatoo and Belgrave branches.
Mr Marke said over time it was proposed to convert the sub-branch into a full bank.
“This is a great opportunity to expand the Dandenong Ranges Community Bank Group business into areas which already has a significant proportion of existing customers,” he said.
To celebrate the open an official launch will be held on Friday from 1am which will be followed on Saturday with a community street party from 10am to noon.
The bank will then be opened for business on Monday 14 December from 9am at shop 5, 232 Ridge Road, Olinda.
