Maestros on the small side

IT’S never too early to start learning music, and two-year-old Lily can prove it.
She and mum April have been attending Mini Maestros for just one year and Lily is already showing off her skills and reaping the benefits.
“It’s amazing to see two-year-old kids keeping a steady beat and responding to changes in the music,” says April.
Even more amazing is seeing four-year-old Mini Maestros graduates composing and notating their own melodies, and performing them on chime bars.
But how do they do it?
“It’s all about having fun,” Rowville/Upwey franchise teacher Kate Phillips said.
“Through singing, dancing and playing percussion instruments and musical games, the children have so much fun they don’t realise they’re learning.”
Ms Phillips said Mini Maestros wasn’t only about fun and music.
“Musical experiences such as those learnt through Mini Maestros help to improve children’s listening skills, develop speech and vocabulary, and help children to interact positively in social situations,” she said.
Mini Maestros dad Dan has been taking his daughter Abi to classes for the past 12 months and sees another side to the music sessions.
“I always treasure the special father-daughter time we have at Mini Maestros,” he said.
Mini Maestros has been operating for 25 years and has franchises throughout Melbourne, Geelong and Brisbane.
Sessions run for children aged 6 months to 5 years.
