Police probe $10,000 jewellery robbery

By Casey Neill
POLICE are searching for a white Nissan Silvia over a $10,000 jewellery heist and early morning robbery spree.
Leading Senior Constable Sandra Maddern said police believed the car’s driver and passenger broke into four hills businesses in the early hours of 21 and 22 February.
She said a small white sports car was seen driving onto the footpath outside Monbulk Jewellers between 3.15am and 3.25am yesterday (Monday).
Two males used a brick to smash the Main Road store’s front window and stole $10,000 worth of jewellery before fleeing east towards Emerald.
The previous day (Sunday) thieves kicked in the front door at Muir and Sons agricultural supplies on Silvan Road, Silvan about 5.05am and tried to steal money from the till, but left empty-handed.
Witnesses saw a white Nissan Silvia leave the scene.
About 5.20am thieves used a brick to smash the glass Monbulk Post Office front door and opened drawers behind the counter, but again left with nothing.
Leading Sen Const Maddern said it was likely the same thieves smashed the Mount Evelyn Post Office front window about 5am Sunday. Nothing was stolen.
She appealed for any witnesses to contact Monbulk Police Station on 9756 6266.
