Drugs break-in

By Tania Martin
FIVE people have been charged following a drugs break-in at Mount Evelyn Pharmacy.
Police called pharmacist Chris Farquhar shortly after 4.40am last Thursday, 25 February, when it was discovered that someone had smashed in to the chemist shop.
He said they got in using a brick cinder block.
Mr Farquhar said security cameras showed the brick was thrown at the shop but it bounced off the Plexiglass front door.
“They picked it up and threw it again and smash the glass,” he said.
Mr Farquhar said the raiders made a huge mess of the pharmacy in their hunt for drugs.
He believes they were after the pharmacy’s pseudoephedrine tablets which were locked in a safe.
Mr Farquhar said $120 in change was stolen and that the raiders ripped the door of a storage cupboard off its hinges.
“They just made a real mess,” he said.
A pharmacy in Seville was also raided the same night but police where unable to confirm if it was connected.
Mount Evelyn Christian School was vandalised the same night with offenders damaging the roof of the school.
A school spokeswoman said the bandits didn’t gain access to the school but damaged the roof.
This latest crime spate follows raids on Monbulk’s jeweller, Monbulk and Mount Evelyn Post Offices and an agricultural supply store in Silvan during the previous week.
In all instances police believe a brick was used to break into the premises.
Police raided a hotel room in Ringwood on Thursday and arrested five people for numerous burglary charges and for drug trafficking.
Two have been remanded in custody on a number of charges.
An 18-year-old Ferntree Gully man, 20-year-old Chadstone woman and 22-year-old Wandin North man have been charged and released on bail to appear before the Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
