MOUNT Evelyn Scout Group’s monthly market will live to fight another day.
The market’s future was in doubt after organisers were told they were no longer able to put signs on road signs without a permit. The group feared this would lead to a reduction in marketgoers and a grim future.
But at a meeting last Tuesday, 23 February the council agreed to grant a permit.
Market spokesman Geoff Hattan had collected a 100-signatory petition calling for the signs to be allowed when the decision came through.
The permit will allow the Scout group to display signs on roadsides a week before the market in a bid to draw more people to the event.
Scout group leader Garry Park said the permit was fantastic news for the market.
He said all cash raised from the monthly markets went directly back into the Scout group.
Mr Park said the main purpose of the event was to engage the community to get together and have a market.
He said the issue over the signs arose last October and it was fantastic to finally have it resolved.
“It means people in the community will know about the market … it (the signs) gets people there,” Mr Park said.
